At the invitation of Dr. Bing Chen, Dr. James Brydie, the Director at CanmetENERGY Devon, Natural Resource Canada, visited the Memorial University and the NRPOP Lab in St. John’s on August 6-7, 2024.
On August 6, Dr. Brydie delivered a seminar titled “Marine and Freshwater Contaminants: Hazardous and Noxious Substances Spill Response and Recovery Research” to the graduate students in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University. The seminar provided an in-depth overview of Canada’s efforts in spill response and recovery research, particularly within the context of the renewed Oceans Protection Plan. It further provided valuable insights into HNS research within the Canadian Federal Government, ongoing research activities at Natural Resources Canada, and opportunities for collaboration between federal and provincial governments, academia, industry, and Indigenous communities.
On August 7, Dr. Brydie visited the NRPOP Lab, where senior researchers presented their research projects. Dr. Brydie discussed with them regarding their research projects. He also offered valuable insights and suggested future collaborations with each scholar.
